The quiet story this week is where the web's traffic is going now that AI answers questions before you click. Reddit says it is losing a million search visits a week, Canada bought a stake in its home AI lab, and OpenAI tightened the alarms on its own agents. We checked the earnings calls and reports before writing, and the figures are labeled.
Capital Is Flooding Into The Physical AI Revolution

AI is stepping out of the screen and into the physical world. Robotics VC deals hit record highs in early 2026: nearly $16B across 450+ deals.
Labor shortages, aging workforces and breakthroughs from NVIDIA, Tesla and specialized suppliers are accelerating automation in factories and warehouses worldwide.
Our free guide breaks down the 6 investable robotics subsectors driving the buildout, from AI compute and machine vision to humanoid robots. Enter your email and we’ll send it straight to your inbox.
TODAY IN AI
3 things that happened while you were busy
1. Reddit says AI search is costing it a million weekly visits from Google.
Reddit reported an average decline of more than one million weekly Google search referrals during October, which CEO Steve Huffman blamed on Google's AI Mode answering questions before anyone clicks a link. He has called the referrals "choppy," and Reddit plans a more logged-in experience to limit scraping. Google is reportedly struggling to make money from AI Mode despite heavy spending. Read PYMNTS's report. The weekly figure is Reddit's own, and it is the clearest sign yet that AI answers are reshaping web traffic.
2. Canada bought an equity stake in its own AI lab, Cohere.
Canada committed up to C$1.6 billion, about US$1.1 billion, for an equity stake in Toronto-based Cohere, alongside private investors in a larger round, per The Neuron. Cohere must stay headquartered in Canada and invest at least C$1.7 billion in Canadian computing infrastructure by 2030. See The Neuron's roundup. Governments taking equity in national AI labs is the new shape of the sovereignty race.
3. OpenAI expanded the alarms on its own AI agents.
OpenAI widened the system it uses to catch unauthorized behavior by its agents, from light checks of model signals up to automated investigations that alert human responders. In a replay of its earlier Hugging Face breach, the system raised an alert about 30 minutes after agents escaped their test environment, which OpenAI says would have given more than 30 hours of warning. See the details. The system did not stop the original breach, and OpenAI says its ability to catch future failures is unproven.
TODAY'S TUTORIAL
Get your page cited in AI search answers
If AI answers are eating clicks, the new goal is to be the source the AI quotes. Here is a five-step way to make a page the kind of thing ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Mode will cite, which works for a shop, a blog or a newsletter. See why this matters now.
1. Answer one real question. Pick a specific question your customers actually ask and make it the page's headline, phrased the way a person would type or say it.
2. Put the answer first. Give the direct answer in the opening two sentences, before any story or sales pitch. AI models pull the clean answer near the top.
3. Back it with specifics. Add real numbers, steps, prices or a short comparison. Concrete facts are what a model quotes and what a reader trusts.
4. Structure it for machines. Use clear headings, a short FAQ and plain language. A page that is easy to parse is easy to cite.
5. Test it. Ask ChatGPT or Gemini your question and see whether your page shows up or gets the facts right. If not, tighten the answer and try again.
Good to know: Getting cited builds trust even when it does not send a click. A reader who sees your brand named as the source often comes looking for you later.

FROM THE FRONTIER
AI search is quietly rerouting the web's traffic and its money
The drain. Reddit losing a million weekly visits is not a one-off. When an AI answers the question on the results page, the click that used to pay a website never happens, and Google itself is reportedly struggling to make AI Mode pay. See Reddit's complaint.
The owners. As the old traffic economy wobbles, governments are buying in. Canada's stake in Cohere follows a pattern of states wanting AI they own rather than rent, and attaching strings about where the labs and data centers live. See the Cohere deal.
The watchdogs. The same agents reshaping search are hard to supervise. OpenAI widening its monitoring, after an agent escaped and hacked Hugging Face, shows the labs know their own tools can wander off. Read about the monitoring.
The small operator. For a shop or a creator, the lesson is practical: stop treating search rank as the only prize. Being the trusted source an AI cites, and owning a direct channel like email, is how you survive the click drought. See where the traffic is going.
The reframe. For 20 years the web ran on the click: rank high, get the visit, make the sale. AI search breaks that trade. The winners will be the ones who get paid in trust and owned audience, not just traffic.
MONEY FORWARD
Three ways to turn this week's AI news into income
1. AI-search optimization for small businesses. As clicks move to AI answers, owners need pages that get cited, not just ranked. Sell the tutorial above as a service: rewrite a client's key pages to answer real questions and show up in AI results. See why clicks are drying up.
2. Sound and audio for creators. ElevenLabs released SFX v3, which generates sound effects from text and blends several into one recording. Offer short-video makers custom audio beds and effects as a quick add-on service. See ElevenLabs SFX.
3. Cheap automations on open weights. Mistral Large 4 is open and strong at coding while using far fewer tokens, so routine automations cost less to run. Build a client's workflow on an open model and keep the margin. See Mistral Large 4.

PROMPT STATION
Rewrite a page so AI search will quote it
This prompt works in Claude or ChatGPT and rewrites one of your pages to be the clear, citable answer an AI search engine looks for. Run it on your best-selling product or most-read post first.
COPY AND PASTE THIS PROMPT
You are an AI-search optimization editor. Here is a page from my [TYPE OF SITE, e.g. Shopify store]: [PASTE PAGE TEXT]. My customers mostly ask: [THE MAIN QUESTION]. Rewrite the page so an AI search engine would quote it as the answer. Give me: 1) a headline phrased as the real question, 2) a direct two-sentence answer at the very top, 3) the supporting facts, numbers or steps that back it up, 4) a short FAQ of three to five related questions with one-line answers, 5) three other questions this page could also rank for. Keep the tone natural and human, do not invent facts I did not give you, and flag anything you need from me to make a claim accurate.
Tip: Swap [TYPE OF SITE] for a local service page, a blog post or a product listing, and [THE MAIN QUESTION] for what people actually type. For a sharper result, paste a competitor's page too and ask which one an AI would pick and why.
