AI is quietly taking over how people find things, from the next show to the next answer. Netflix now picks by your mood, ChatGPT says it handles a fifth of Google's search volume, and Meta is borrowing billions to pay for it all. We checked the sources and labeled the figures the companies gave themselves.

TODAY IN AI
3 things that happened while you were busy
1. Netflix now recommends shows based on your mood.
Netflix launched an AI Discover tab that suggests titles from themes like "something light," "scare me" and "quick watches," running on what it calls a new intelligence layer that adapts to what you tell it in real time. It is starting in the US for English-language viewers on supported TVs, as a test. Read TechCrunch's report. It is a clear move away from endless scrolling toward AI deciding what you see first.
2. ChatGPT says it now handles a fifth of Google's search volume.
At a press event, OpenAI said search-style ChatGPT queries are running at about 20% of Google's volume, and that ChatGPT has reached roughly 1.2 billion weekly users, up from one billion in about 60 days. Both numbers are OpenAI's own estimates, not independent measurements. See the figures. Even allowing for spin, that is a real dent in how people search.
3. Meta is borrowing billions to fund its AI buildout.
Meta is seeking $20 billion to $25 billion in bonds, its first to include a euro tranche, as it guides to $135 billion to $145 billion in capital spending for 2026, much of it on AI data centers. The scale shows how expensive staying in the race has become. See the details. When a company this rich borrows to keep up, the AI spending arms race is nowhere near cooling.
TODAY'S TUTORIAL
Replace ten research tabs with one AI session
If ChatGPT is eating search, use it the way it is strongest: for messy decisions that would take a dozen tabs. Here is how to research a choice, like a tool, a supplier or a purchase, in one clean pass without getting fooled. See the shift.
1. State the decision. Tell the AI exactly what you are choosing between and what matters to you, like budget, use case and deal-breakers, instead of a vague question.
2. Ask for a comparison, not a winner. Have it lay out the real options side by side with pros, cons and rough prices, so you can judge rather than take its first pick.
3. Turn on search. Use a mode that browses the web, like ChatGPT search or Gemini, so the answer reflects current prices and facts, not stale training data.
4. Make it show sources. Ask for a link behind each key claim and open the important ones. If it cannot cite a fact, treat that fact as unconfirmed.
5. End with a recommendation for you. Once the facts check out, ask which option best fits the needs you listed in step one, and why. Now the pick is grounded.
Good to know: AI still makes things up, especially prices and specs. The source-check in step four is what separates fast research from confident nonsense.
A CRM so smart, it updates itself.
HubSpot's CRM is so smart, it now updates itself. Calls get logged and summarized the moment they end. New leads get researched and a first outreach drafted, automatically. Deals move forward on their own, with next steps flagged before you have to ask.
Even the one repetitive task you've been meaning to fix can now run itself, no code required. Customers using it are already seeing the difference.
This isn't the CRM you have to work hard to figure out. It's the one already working before you log in.
FROM THE FRONTIER
AI is becoming the front door to everything you find
The discovery shift. Netflix picking your next show by mood is a small example of a big change: AI, not a list or a search box, increasingly decides what you see first. See the feature.
The search shift. The same thing is happening to the open web. If ChatGPT really answers a fifth of what people used to Google, the habit of searching and clicking is being replaced by asking and getting one answer. See the claim.
The bill. Running all this costs a fortune, which is why even Meta is borrowing billions on top of its cash to build data centers. The front door to information is being paved with debt. See the spend.
The catch for businesses. When an AI chooses what people see, you stop optimizing for a human scanning a list and start making sure the AI understands and recommends you. That is a different game than old SEO. See where this leads.
The reframe. Stop thinking about ranking on a page and start thinking about being the answer. Describe what you sell in plain terms a machine can match to a person's need, because that is who is doing the recommending now.
MONEY FORWARD
Three ways to turn this week's AI news into income
1. Get businesses recommended by AI. As assistants answer questions directly, brands want to be the one named. Offer to rewrite a client's pages and profiles so AI tools understand and suggest them for the right questions. See why it matters.
2. Sell done-for-you AI research. Busy people want decisions made, not ten tabs. Package the tutorial above as a service: hand clients a clear, sourced comparison and recommendation for a tool, supplier or purchase. See the trend.
3. Build mood and use-case collections for stores. Netflix groups by mood because it works. Help a shop organize products into use-case collections like "gifts under $50" or "new to this," which both shoppers and AI can navigate. See the idea in action.

IN THE KNOW
What people are actually watching and sharing
Google rethinks AI in schools. Google is changing how Gemini and Search work for K-12 student accounts, requiring schools to opt in and adding student-data protections, while testing a Guided Learning mode in some US schools this month. See the change.
Inference startup raises big. Fal, which runs AI models for developers, raised $1.3 billion at a $16 billion valuation, double its April figure, with Bessemer leading and Nvidia joining, on a reported $800 million in annualized revenue. See the round.
Claude labels its old models. Anthropic said it will add identity watermarks to four older Claude models to meet the EU AI Act's rules on marking AI-generated content. See the details.
AI meets the power grid. OpenAI launched a Grid Protectors Program with utilities so future compute campuses can ease demand when the grid is strained, with a Georgia pilot that could free up to about 1,000 megawatts. See the program.
Half of AI "facts" go stale. Stanford researchers retested 50 widely cited AI claims across 20 models and found 44% no longer held, with such claims lasting about 16 months on average, a reminder to recheck what you read. See the study.

5. ElevenLabs SFX v3. Generates sound effects from a text prompt and blends several into one clip, with a free tier. Still one of the most useful tools for short video and podcasts. See the tool.
PROMPT STATION
Make AI do your decision research
This is the research routine from today's tutorial in one prompt. Use it in ChatGPT or Gemini with web search on, for any "which should I pick" decision. It forces a sourced comparison instead of a confident guess.
COPY AND PASTE THIS PROMPT
I need to decide on [THE DECISION, e.g. which email tool for a small store]. What matters to me: [YOUR CRITERIA, e.g. budget under $X, easy setup, good support]. Search the web and give me: 1) the three or four real options that fit, 2) a side-by-side comparison with pros, cons and current prices, 3) a link for each key fact so I can verify it, 4) anything you could not confirm, flagged clearly, and 5) your recommendation for my criteria, with the reason. Do not invent prices or features, and tell me if you need more from me first.
Tip: Swap [THE DECISION] for anything you are weighing, like a supplier, a laptop or a marketing channel. For a tougher test, add "argue the case against your own pick" so it stress-tests the recommendation before you act.
